Happy Halloween!

I hope you have a Happy Halloween!  Here in California, we have pumpkins to carve, trick-or-treating to conquer, and some quick and easy treats to make to get us through our busy day.  It is a good thing we have no school...yes I said NO SCHOOL.  Crazy, I know.

Just in case you are headed to a party and don't know what to bring,
here are a couple of spooktacular snacks that you may or may not have seen on Pinterest!

Also, I am back to writing about the picture ABOVE the picture...
it just makes sense when you are scrolling down.

Monster Smiles

What you need:
Apples
Peanut Butter
Marshmallows

Step 1: Slice Apples and toss in a large bowl with 1 Tbsp lemon juice.

Step 2. {optional} Pat dry your apples, so the peanut butter will stick better.

Step 3. Take one apple slice and slather with peanut butter.

Step 4: Add your Monster Teeth! {Marshmallows}

Step 5: Top of your snack with another peanut butter apple slice to make one sparkling
(and yummy I might add) snack for the kidlets.

Yum.  Mmmmmmm.  Or should I say RooOOOAAARRR!
These would probably work for a red neck party because they do look like Billy Bob teeth as my mother, her highness, would call them.

Next up...
GOBLIN EAR WAX

What you need:
Peanut Butter Candy Melts
Marshmallows
Lollipop Sticks

Step 1: Cut your lollipop sticks in half.

Step 2: Slide one marshmallow onto each end of your lollipop stick.

Step 3: Melt your Peanut Butter Melts.
I melted them until they were {ironically} the consistency of peanut butter.

Step 4: Dip each end of your Q-tip in the melted candy!

Voila!  Gross, yet yummy Halloween Treats!

Happy Haunting!

Cheers,

Halloween Craft: Painted Toast!

Have you noticed that the week before Halloween has become almost as excitingly busy as Christmas?
At Christmas it is the commercials on the TV, but now my kids keep seeing things like Skeleton's on people's lawn, and spiderwebs in people's tree's and asking over and over "Can we get that"?

Secretly I want to buy all of the spooky things...but I have to say no because I am the mom.

Here is a Halloween craft you will want to do with your kidlets!  I am positive that 99% of you will have the ingredients to do it today if you want to!

What you need:
Milk
Sliced Bread
Food Coloring

What to do:
1. Mix your food coloring with milk!
Our paint recipe: 5 drops food coloring to 1/4 Cup milk
For Orange: 4 drops yellow, 1 drop red
For Purple: 4 drops red, 1 drop blue
For Green: 4 drops yellow, 1 drop blue

2. Paint your heart out!

I tried to inspire a Halloween theme,
but my little Cowboy ruined my pumpkin. :(

3. Toast your bread!
If your child's bread canvas gets too soggy, you can push your toast down twice. :)

4. Eat your toast!
We buttered ours because we like it that way.

Disclaimer: You must monitor your children if you don't want an entire loaf of bread painted in less than 5 minutes.  Try giving them each a limit of 1-2 slices and then put the bread away. :)

I would like to make a "toast" to Halloween!
Happy Haunting!

Lucy Jane's Best: Pumpkin Squares with Cream Cheese Frosting

If you are looking for recipes that are tried and true... look no further.
One of my favorite food sites is Lucy Jane's Best.   My friend Shannon who is the founder.  I am not biased at all because I love my friend so much that I named my youngest after her youngest...I promise the food is REALLY good.  I am not a great cook, but the recipes are actually something that I have tried to make myself.  One of my favorites is the Chicken Caesar Wrap.  So go... drool a little, and perhaps find your new favorite recipe!

Pumpkin Squares with Cream Cheese Frosting

20OCT
Through the fall months I love to make plenty of “pumpkin” goodies.  This recipe is one of my favorites because it’s easy, fast and most importantly, delicious!  Plus, it makes a ton so you can share!  I offer a sincere thank you to my friend Carrie L, who passed this lovely recipe on to me!
Pumpkin Squares with Cream Cheese Frosting
Dough:
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 2/3 cups sugar
  • 2 tsp. Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. Baking soda
  • 2 tsp. Baking powder
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 small can pumpkin
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In large bowl, combine dry ingredients.  Add wet ingredients and stir to mix.  Spread into a greased jelly roll pan.  Bake for 20-25 minutes.  Do not over bake.  Let cool completely and frost with cream cheese frosting.
Cream Cheese Frosting:
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 2 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
With an electric mixer, cream butter and cream cheese together until blended.  Add sugar and blend until thoroughly incorporated.  Add vanilla and stir to combine.
Spread onto cooled pumpkin cake and cut into squares.

My pictures on canvas are done!
I love them.  Daddy and his little Cowboy...

Can you see the cute additions I have above his dresser?

My little man in his hat...and holding a stick.
All boy, I love it!

Boy-ish ABC's!

Minus the ugly crib tent in the corner...I love it!
What is your favorite room redo?

I Heart Cowboys

If you ever look at my pinterest boards, you probably know I like cowboy things.  Boots, hats, and the occasional Cowboy himself are just great things aren't they?

Since my little man was born I have wanted to do a Cowboy themed room.  I didn't really grow up in the country, but I like to pretend that I did from summers spent at my grandparents house with their horses and unlike California... a yard big enough to run in.  Plus little boys in Cowboy boots are so darling.

I have almost finished his room!  I found this great paint color called Garden Wall.
It is like the color of clay mud...perfect for a Cowboy Room!

I bought the dresser from a friend...and found a lot of the Cowboy finds from garage sales!

This cute little boot was a hand-me-down from a friend who was putting her sons Cowboy Room days behind him.  Thank you friend!  I love all of the Cowboy things she gave me.

I didn't really know what to do with the bar on the shelf.
I finally decided to hang some western looking shirts to make it perfect.

I don't have pictures of his bed yet because he is still in a crib.  My little Cowboy also knows how to climb out, so he gets zipped into a not-so-cute crib tent at night.  When he finally moves to a big boy crib I will have all sorts of fun adding that to the decor.

When my friend Winter was here and took our family pictures,
she told me that we should really put some Cowboy pictures on the wall.
So I am printing these pictures below and then I will Mod Podge on Canvas.

I am so excited about these pictures!
If you are interested I used the FREE  Honey Retro action from Coffee Tea Photography's Blog.
I will post the finishing touches when I am done!

Cheers,
