I found this awesome map on Amazon.com ages ago.
I have always wanted a map for my kids to look at and this seemed pretty
school age worthy to me. So I decided finally to order it!
Because I have an addiction to Mod Podge, and a plethora of unused canvases from my art fair days,
I decided that was the route. The map was 36 inches by 24 inches, the exact size of a canvas I had laying around! I buy all of my pre-stretched canvas from dickblick.com.
Secrets of the task:
Maps are most likely very thin. I new it would wrinkle up when it got the slightest bit wet, but I was gambling on the fact that I could make it look cool. I ended up lucky, because it does!
First I painted the edges of my canvas black. Then I applied Mod Podge to one end of the canvas and carefully lined up the map with the edge. I smooth my map only at the edge with Mod Podge. Every couple of inches, I would add more Mod Podge to my canvas surface and slowly smooth a little more of the map onto the canvas. Once the Mod Podge was dry, I dry-brushed with dark gray paint over all of the wrinkles .
It adds dimension, and makes me love my map even more!
Do you love our earth as much as I do?
Cheers,

What a clever technique! This can be used to make a pretty "art print" out of any image you like. Great gift idea!
